James’s 1918 draft registration
Bridgeport, Connecticut
- What this shows
- The front gives 498 Howard Avenue, drop-forger occupation, Remington-UMC employer and Mrs. Katherine McFadden as nearest relative. The reverse gives a physical description, registrar's report and 19 September 1918 stamp.
- What it does not prove
- The reverse bears a 19 September 1918 registrar stamp; that stamp alone does not prove the day James completed the form. The recorded birth date, 22 September 1880, conflicts with the Irish birth record. Registration is not proof of military service or of James’s views about the war.

Correction history is part of the evidence
Teutonic, not Oceanic.
The earlier Oceanic listing remains important, but is not visibly crossed out: a repeated printed ledger rule was previously mistaken for cancellation. The completed arrival record establishes the Teutonic as James’s vessel. The reason for the two entries remains uncertain. An open family-history project
Downloadable does not mean context-free.
Research that reaches the finished site should be shareable and downloadable. Every file should travel with its project ID, citation, provenance, derivative relationship, evidence boundary and rights note.
The manifest is machine-readable for researchers and AI tools. It carries attribution, what each record supports, what it does not prove and separate review conditions for copies and derivatives. It is not a bundle of images or a blanket permission grant.
